The film focuses on the making of Spode's Blue Italian taking place at Portmeirion Group's factory in Stoke-on-Trent today. The film evidences the 22 pairs of hands through which each piece passes in its production life cycle and records the movements and rhythms of the workplace and the making process.
The sound track to the film is 'An der schönen blauen Donau' by Johann Strauss II, also known by its English name 'The Blue Danube'.
